The Double House is the structure to the left in the picture. To its immediate right is the Beaubien Home. I know very little about the Double House. I do not know which architect designed this pair of residences, whether any important people lived here, or when it was converted from residential to commercial use. I have seen a reference stating that it was built in 1876. Each unit has impressive two-story bay windows fronting on East Jefferson. The National Historic Register includes an East Jefferson Residential Thematic Resource. In addition to about a dozen apartment buildings, that historic listing includes about eight smaller residential buildings. I think the Double House is listed on the National Register, but it is not, so far as I can tell, included in the East Jefferson Residential Thematic Resource. If you know about the origin and history of this attractive building, I would appreciate hearing from you.
